enso GmbH emerged from “Energie-Netzwerk Südost GmbH”, which was founded in 1999. From 2004 to 2009, it was wholly owned by the Frizberg family, which has been operating hydropower plants since 1902. During this period, the company was involved in energy and infrastructure projects in south-eastern Europe and Turkey.

Since 2010, the company has been operating under the name enso GmbH and focuses exclusively on the asset management of hydropower plants and portfolios.
Today, enso GmbH is majority-owned by the Frizberg family. Further shares are held by the management of enso GmbH.
